Your help is needed for the Richmond HS gang rape victim.

Hopefully, justice will be served in this most horrifying case of a) gang rape at a school dance, b) where up to 20 bystanders cheered and said nothing.

The 15 year old victim is said to be resting at home following her hospitalization. Here’s how you can help!

*Please* take a moment to send a card or note to the survivor of last Sat’s gang rape: Richmond High School is accepting cards and donations for the victim and her family. They can be mailed to the school at 1250 23rd St., Richmond, CA 94804-1011. Make checks out to the Richmond High Student Fund, with “For sex assault victim” written in the memo line.

Of course, I find it odd that the very school with improper lighting, security and chaperones is collecting the funds, but….please send your money to help her heal. She will have a long road, bless her.

Why is America so prudish? Leave Meghan McCain alone.

Meghan McCain posted a picture on her Twitter account, clearly in the privacy of her home, wearing a tank top. That she is well-endowed is evident. Since the blogosphere and Twittersphere has become such a place of hatred, she was, inevitably, labeled a “slut” for the photograph.

Since when does being well-endowed constitute being a “slut”? I’m not going to be political here, but the girl defended herself quite aptly regarding the hurtful comments aimed at her. Ann Coulter routinely shows her very long legs. We see photos of President Obama engaging in sports with his shirt off. The First Lady has the right to “bare arms”. Why on Earth this is a partisan issue is beyond me. Well, no it isn’t because any anonymous person with a keyboard can hurl invectives. Once again, back to the idea that in order to post any sort of comment, one should have to register in one’s real name with a credit card.

Because of our insane and Puritanical preoccupation with sex and body image, we are losing sight of the fact that Meghan McCain, merely by being a public person, is a lightning rod for criticism, but, in this case, the WRONG kind. I feel for her. Just because someone has a blog, a Twitter account or is in any way public does not give people the right to be hateful and hurtful. Yes, free speech, blah blah blah. But we’ve taken it too far.

If you want to disagree with her politics, then do so in an intelligent manner. A well-built girl with her clothes on should not be at the receiving end of such hatred.

Nujood Ali, the child bride heroine of Yemen, has died in childbirth.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the outcome of this story. I had blogged about it a while back and the outcome is tragic. Twelve-year-old Nujood, raped by her husband, was impregnated and died in childbirth. Her child also died.

I call upon any human rights group to fix this. Amnesty International? Save the Children? Someone?

Rest in peace, baby girl.

Gang rape of West Liberian girl, 9, draws victim-blaming from her family.

This is one of the most egregious stories I’ve read in a while. A little girl (a refugee from Liberia, living in Phoenix) was gang-raped by a group of boys, aged 9-14 (the 14 year old will be charged as an adult) and get this: her family feels she “has brought shame” on herself and their good name. Both the victim and the perps hail from the African nation of Liberia where rape was only considered to be a crime in 2006.

I’ve got news for these savage folks; you now live in America, where rape is a crime. To criticize this poor child, who will be physically and emotionally scarred forever, is almost a bigger crime than the rape itself. Thankfully, when she is released from the hospital, she will NOT be going back to the home, but placed somewhere else by CPS. Liberian officials, including President Ellen Sirleaf (yeah, a woman) are trying to spin it as if they have no clue why the family’s attitude is such, but I am a bit skeptical. Animals.

Read carefully the older sister’s comments and tell me that the world hasn’t gone to Hell in a handbasket. She advocates that the suspects be released because “we are the same people”. Huh? There are days when I think that the United Nations, Angelina Jolie and Superman himself cannot change attitudes. It reminds me of Islamic honor killings and the like. Whatever dark age these people live in, it ain’t right.

Say a prayer for this little girl.

David Letterman vs. Sarah Palin

Let me begin by saying I really do not care for Sarah Palin. She was unqualified for the Veep nomination and her town charged rape victims and their insurance companies for rape kits (around $1200). Alaska has the highest incidence of rape per capita, by the way.

That said, David Letterman really crossed the line by his comments about Bristol/Willow/whomever. You don’t joke about them being raped, “knocked up”, having sex with older men, etc. Imagine if he had said any of this about Sasha or Malia Obama? I voted for Obama, by the way. Barack and Michelle would have his head on a platter.

What I mean to express here is that while late-night comics clearly use our messed up political follies as great fodder for comedy (and usually successfully!), he really didn’t need to go there. Leave the kids out of it. Whether calling Chelsea Clinton “ugly” or making fun of the Bush twins partying habits, it’s not a good practice and I think he’s wrong. What did you think of his jokes? His half-assed apology?

“She suffered no serious injuries”. Really??? Sickest story of, I believe, the year.

I have long ranted about Craigslist being a haven for criminals (and furniture and babysitters), but it’s time for the government to step in.

This man arranged for the rape of his own wife on Craigslist WHILE HE WATCHED AND HIS CHILDREN WERE IN THE HOUSE. I never use the “f” word on my blog, but what the fuck is wrong with humanity today?

Read and comment please. My heart is broken. I would also like to appeal to the media to use responsible wording in their reports on rape. She will suffer lifelong injuries of the soul and psyche due to this crime. By minimizing the language because she didn’t have, say, obvious lacerations and bruises, you perpetuate the stereotype that rape is not deadly or injurious to victims. You only want to report it properly when the victim is a bloody pulp. Come on, now.

UPDATE: The husband says the wife approved of it and wanted it. Yeah, right. Have we learned nothing about Craigslist?

Honestly – what is wrong with these women? Another murder of pregnant woman and baby.

Excuse, but I am supposed to use the word “alleged”. We’ve heard this before and I wonder if there is a medically/legally vetted word for this phenomenon.

Police were called to the home of this woman, where she and her boyfriend were found desperately trying to revive a newborn, who she claimed was her own. Upon further investigation (and a trip to the hospital), cops realized she had not been pregnant recently and found a young woman dead in the crawlspace of the home. The woman in custody had told friends and family she was expecting a child.

Women have been killing other women for their babies by using ruses such as hanging out in OB/GYN offices, trolling baby registries and such. Some say it’s due to the alleged murderers longing for a child of their own. I think it’s monstrous.

Thoughts? Prayers for the victims. Such a sad, sad ending to what should have been a joyous time.

John Hock – sick criminal of the month.

I often wonder why some stories that really shock me to the core don’t get picked up by mainstream media. This is one such story and I call upon my wonderful friends in the media to give it some airtime.

Rape cases when the victim is unconscious are not impossible to prosecute at all. That said, it’s difficult when memory is simply not there, or foggy, as defense will try to trip up a complaining witness – for example, “if you can only remember part of the assault, how do we know you’re being truthful about the totality?”. Yes, that sort of shit.

Well, John Hock makes it easy for prosecutors. He raped a woman repeatedly while filming it LIVE with his webcam, just as the Max Factor heir did. What he then did was stream the video onto the Internet. Can you imagine? The victim got texts from her friends and watched it herself.

John Hock – I hope you go away for a long time, you depraved stealer of souls. Just because you manage to get a woman drunk (or probably drug her, I am sure), does not mean you can rape her repeatedly and boast about it. Clearly, no one would ever consent to having relations with you.

I’d also like to know who watches this stuff? What site do people post this crap on? Am I the only person who thinks this is extraordinarily depraved? I wish healing thoughts to that poor victim, who was assaulted by Hock, then by having to watch it.

Craigslist rapist convicted, slams victims, portrays himself as one.

I don’t care if you are a prostitute…you don’t deserve rape. This gem of a guy, David Gage, a former law enforcement officer (does that mean cop?), was sentenced to 29 years in the clink for raping women he met on Craigslist.

At his allocution, he slams the victims in his apology by saying they “got themselves into the situation”. I would have lit my own hair on fire at that point. If you are sitting there at sentencing, you should just say “I’m really sorry. Let’s go to jail now”, thereby sparing the victims any further pain by laying blame on them.

He also claims that he was a victim. Rape is the only crime that I know of when the victim is positioned in a place of responsibility. When will that end?

UPDATE: Gage was found dead in his cell yesterday of an apparent suicide.
