Why is America so prudish? Leave Meghan McCain alone.

Meghan McCain posted a picture on her Twitter account, clearly in the privacy of her home, wearing a tank top. That she is well-endowed is evident. Since the blogosphere and Twittersphere has become such a place of hatred, she was, inevitably, labeled a “slut” for the photograph.

Since when does being well-endowed constitute being a “slut”? I’m not going to be political here, but the girl defended herself quite aptly regarding the hurtful comments aimed at her. Ann Coulter routinely shows her very long legs. We see photos of President Obama engaging in sports with his shirt off. The First Lady has the right to “bare arms”. Why on Earth this is a partisan issue is beyond me. Well, no it isn’t because any anonymous person with a keyboard can hurl invectives. Once again, back to the idea that in order to post any sort of comment, one should have to register in one’s real name with a credit card.

Because of our insane and Puritanical preoccupation with sex and body image, we are losing sight of the fact that Meghan McCain, merely by being a public person, is a lightning rod for criticism, but, in this case, the WRONG kind. I feel for her. Just because someone has a blog, a Twitter account or is in any way public does not give people the right to be hateful and hurtful. Yes, free speech, blah blah blah. But we’ve taken it too far.

If you want to disagree with her politics, then do so in an intelligent manner. A well-built girl with her clothes on should not be at the receiving end of such hatred.

Two female inmates in Oklahoma raped working at Governor’s mansion.

This is a terrible story of the rape of two inmates on work detail at the Oklahoma governor’s mansion. What makes it awful is that the suspects were merely fired and no charges are being brought against them, although it is clear the women were raped.

Are incarcerated people just not considered part of of society? What do you think?

Gang rape of West Liberian girl, 9, draws victim-blaming from her family.

This is one of the most egregious stories I’ve read in a while. A little girl (a refugee from Liberia, living in Phoenix) was gang-raped by a group of boys, aged 9-14 (the 14 year old will be charged as an adult) and get this: her family feels she “has brought shame” on herself and their good name. Both the victim and the perps hail from the African nation of Liberia where rape was only considered to be a crime in 2006.

I’ve got news for these savage folks; you now live in America, where rape is a crime. To criticize this poor child, who will be physically and emotionally scarred forever, is almost a bigger crime than the rape itself. Thankfully, when she is released from the hospital, she will NOT be going back to the home, but placed somewhere else by CPS. Liberian officials, including President Ellen Sirleaf (yeah, a woman) are trying to spin it as if they have no clue why the family’s attitude is such, but I am a bit skeptical. Animals.

Read carefully the older sister’s comments and tell me that the world hasn’t gone to Hell in a handbasket. She advocates that the suspects be released because “we are the same people”. Huh? There are days when I think that the United Nations, Angelina Jolie and Superman himself cannot change attitudes. It reminds me of Islamic honor killings and the like. Whatever dark age these people live in, it ain’t right.

Say a prayer for this little girl.

Well, let’s get this loophole closed. How hard can this be?

So, day care facilities and summer camps hiring workers cannot get access to any out-of-state criminal records of potential employees. Good job. Nice. So, pedophiles can live near schools and parks, aren’t closely watched by parole/probation, can sometimes have Facebook and MySpace profiles and clearly use Craigslist to find their prey. How about using the Internet for good, rather than helping to PUSH these people to find new victims?

How to solve this one? Hello – lawmakers? Hello?

Craigslist rapist convicted, slams victims, portrays himself as one.

I don’t care if you are a prostitute…you don’t deserve rape. This gem of a guy, David Gage, a former law enforcement officer (does that mean cop?), was sentenced to 29 years in the clink for raping women he met on Craigslist.

At his allocution, he slams the victims in his apology by saying they “got themselves into the situation”. I would have lit my own hair on fire at that point. If you are sitting there at sentencing, you should just say “I’m really sorry. Let’s go to jail now”, thereby sparing the victims any further pain by laying blame on them.

He also claims that he was a victim. Rape is the only crime that I know of when the victim is positioned in a place of responsibility. When will that end?

UPDATE: Gage was found dead in his cell yesterday of an apparent suicide.

“Women serving in the U.S. military today are more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire in Iraq.”

A few months ago, I met with one of my Congressmen about the epidemic of military sexual assault after reading about the case of Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach who was raped and murdered by a fellow soldier and the rash of disappearances and rapes on military bases in the United States.

Once again, I was shocked because the military pretty much answers to its own body and not to civilian laws, as they have tools like court martials, military trials and the like.

I am a big supporter of our troops and I applaud the work Michelle Obama is doing as she has identified military families as one of her main platforms as First Lady. That said, I want to know why the numbers are so shocking and do we, as we train soldiers, foster a sort of aggression in these soldiers that transfers back home? My dear friend and college roommate is married to one of my favorite people and he is doing another tour in Afghanistan right now, so this is not a personal issue.

This comes on the heels of my new facet of hate mail writers – military people. I wish I knew why they target me and how they don’t realize I harbor no ill will towards the military, but of rapists and murderers. A military friend today let me know that our military now accepts recruits with criminal records. Just saying.

“Above All, Do No Harm”

Years ago, there was the creepiest movie called “Dead Ringers” about identical twin gynecologists starring Jeremy Irons and it was based on a true story. These twins would impersonate one another (getting their jollies because they would each do things such as have sex with each others’ girlfriends without telling them), became junkies, had lurid sex practices and were just crazies. The movie was a cult hit and gave me the jeebs, big time. David Cronenburg directed it. It’s kind of a must see if you like uncomfortable stuff with great acting…

Anyhoo, Mark and Scott Blankenburg are/were twin pediatricians in Hamilton, Ohio who sexually abused boy patients. The youngest was five. That bus to hell just got 2 more passengers. Of course, no one but the families will feel this pain since everyone’s so busy getting huffed up about Madoff.

Madoff pleads guilty to 11 counts, is remanded.

Now, I have spent a great deal of time thinking about this and sharing with friends on FaceBook. This morning, I saw one of Bernie Madoff’s victims say “There is NO punishment great enough for Madoff to ease my injury, my anger, my sadness.”

The question I posited on my friend Lisa Bloom’s Tweet was “Why, as Americans, do we become the angry, bloodthirsty mob for this guy and yet not for rapists and murderers? Where is the outrage there?”

A girl posted on the thread sort of angrily to me and said that there is no hierarchy of victimhood and that Bernie Madoff is just as bad a criminal as any. I wholly disagree. You ask John Walsh, “do you think losing all of your $$ and losing your son is the same?” I think you know the answer. Given the chance of regaining my dignity and virginity and innocent life, I’d happily part with my money,

Listen, Madoff is a bad, bad man, but he’s not a child-toucher, rapist or murderer. He’s a killer of dreams, a betrayer of trust, but the fact that we had to watch his car, a la OJ Simpson, drive to Court this morning is ridiculous. Why not just as much howling at the moon at the mistreatment of our brothers and sisters in this country, not to mention overseas?! Children are beaten, starved, etc. If you read this blog, you’ve been exposed to some of the most heinous crimes and we never hear followup. Why? This is my theory – WE created Bernie Madoff. Greed and our obsession with money makes his crime worse in the eyes of the average American. This is not right.

Yes, Ruth knows all – she was his bookkeeper. Where is the money? Who else is involved? I mean, really – how does one guy get away with $65 billion?

Caveman Carter. Um – this is for those who think sex offenders are not dangerous.

We have some commenters who believe the recitivism rate for sex offenders is very low. I disagree, but show me some stats and I’ll listen. This is a vile story about a convicted sex offender who was caught hosting sex parties for teens. I’m guessing he fed them alcohol, then watched them have sex. It’s going to come out that he taped them, I’ll bet my life on it.

Where are these kids’ parents? What is wrong with society? Where’s Caveman’s probation officer? Probably too busy with his/her case overload.

Tell me what you think of this one. I’m too horrified to weigh in. While we focus on the Puritanical (alcohol, marijuana), our country is killing our children. MADD, I’m talking to you. We’re so busy vilifying A-Rod, Michael Phelps and even those ridiculous poster girls for bad behavior (Lindsay, Britney, Paris) that we don’t even notice the real problems.
