Hopefully, justice will be served in this most horrifying case of a) gang rape at a school dance, b) where up to 20 bystanders cheered and said nothing.
The 15 year old victim is said to be resting at home following her hospitalization. Here’s how you can help!
*Please* take a moment to send a card or note to the survivor of last Sat’s gang rape: Richmond High School is accepting cards and donations for the victim and her family. They can be mailed to the school at 1250 23rd St., Richmond, CA 94804-1011. Make checks out to the Richmond High Student Fund, with “For sex assault victim” written in the memo line.
Of course, I find it odd that the very school with improper lighting, security and chaperones is collecting the funds, but….please send your money to help her heal. She will have a long road, bless her.
You all may remember this story about the Texas ranch where older men had entered into marriages with tweens and teens. It seems Raymond Jessop has been found guilty of sexual assault of a minor. His sentencing should happen today.
When sects or cults hide behind religious beliefs to do harm and violate the laws of our nation, I don’t think that freedom of religion should apply, just as in those cases where parents deny terminally ill children treatment when their religion dictates prayer as the only form of healing.
I expect many more cases to come out of the Texas ranch.
I have so much praise for this woman and her fortitude. Keep going! Read about her story here.
It’s the sad truth that the statute of limitations has run out on her case, ergo, they cannot prosecute her now positively identified attacker. Perhaps we should strengthen THOSE laws if we are finally going to get to the millions of DNA samples that have been languishing. If we get to them quicker, we’ll be able to prosecute more cases, imprison more perpetrators and free those wrongfully accused. If we have a combined effort of testing the samples faster and lengthening the SOL’s, we could have some measure of success in the middle. Alas, we’ve got a long way to go.
We have the technology! Press on, Lavinia!
You know my feelings on this. Extradition could take a very long time given Swiss extradition laws, but he will not be released so that he may live under house arrest in his Gstaad home.
As for the many in Hollywood, lining up to defend him: Scorsese, Winger, Allen, Ratner, Evans, Beatty, Weinstein, Adjani, et.al., I don’t believe that their view of his artistic genius should impact the severity of the charges. Simply because one is a) talented, b) survived the horrors of the Holocaust and c) lived through a grave personal tragedy does not mean he goes free.
Let’s not even discuss Whoopi Goldberg’s “that wasn’t ‘rape-rape’” comment. It’s too stupid to give any time here. Feeding a child drugs and alcohol, then penetrating her vaginally, orally and anally while she begged for it to stop, is rape. Rape. Rape.
What if Sharon Tate’s killer had been set free? Would Mr. Polanski have found that okay? No. Nor would anyone else. I guess what I’m saying is that the moral depravity of some in the Hollywood community is shocking. Well, maybe not.
This is a terrible story of the rape of two inmates on work detail at the Oklahoma governor’s mansion. What makes it awful is that the suspects were merely fired and no charges are being brought against them, although it is clear the women were raped.
Are incarcerated people just not considered part of of society? What do you think?
I am thoroughly disgusted with the outcome of this story. I had blogged about it a while back and the outcome is tragic. Twelve-year-old Nujood, raped by her husband, was impregnated and died in childbirth. Her child also died.
I call upon any human rights group to fix this. Amnesty International? Save the Children? Someone?
Rest in peace, baby girl.
Sometimes I always wonder why rape victims draw the ire of evangelicals. I’ve been on the end of some serious hate mail from evangelicals who tell me to burn in Hell and all of that nonsense (that doesn’t seem very “Christian”, does it?). People drunk with power and their perceived close relationship with Jesus have been in the news a great deal these past years for unspeakable acts against their fellow man. Hey, let’s hear it for hypocrisy!
Well “Tony Alamo” – real name, Bernie Hoffman, who has evangelical churches in three states was convicted of sexually assaulting a number of young girls over the years.
This is one of the most egregious stories I’ve read in a while. A little girl (a refugee from Liberia, living in Phoenix) was gang-raped by a group of boys, aged 9-14 (the 14 year old will be charged as an adult) and get this: her family feels she “has brought shame” on herself and their good name. Both the victim and the perps hail from the African nation of Liberia where rape was only considered to be a crime in 2006.
I’ve got news for these savage folks; you now live in America, where rape is a crime. To criticize this poor child, who will be physically and emotionally scarred forever, is almost a bigger crime than the rape itself. Thankfully, when she is released from the hospital, she will NOT be going back to the home, but placed somewhere else by CPS. Liberian officials, including President Ellen Sirleaf (yeah, a woman) are trying to spin it as if they have no clue why the family’s attitude is such, but I am a bit skeptical. Animals.
Read carefully the older sister’s comments and tell me that the world hasn’t gone to Hell in a handbasket. She advocates that the suspects be released because “we are the same people”. Huh? There are days when I think that the United Nations, Angelina Jolie and Superman himself cannot change attitudes. It reminds me of Islamic honor killings and the like. Whatever dark age these people live in, it ain’t right.
Say a prayer for this little girl.
Unlike many people on the boards, I find nothing at all wrong with the idea of a male nanny – I have friends who have hired them and there was even a great book about Mannies.
Donald Shepard has been accused of molesting his charges, but the disturbing thing is that he has on online history of belonging to sites for pedophiles. He trolls the country using aliases, applies to schools to be a substitute teacher, has been a camp counselor. Clearly, he is an insidious repeat offender who has managed to slip through the cracks while clearly trolling the country looking for innocent children to destroy.
Why does he not have a record? What do you think of this case? As a mother, it shakes me to the core. I’m not one of those “witchhunt” moms who obsessively searches the offender registry, but you can bet I’ll be looking at everyone who comes into contact with my children.
