Is Quinn Gray simply bipolar and troubled, or did she try to scam $50K from her husband.

This is such an interesting case – beautiful, wealthy Ponte Vedra, Florida housewife and mother Quinn Gray is alleged to have faked her own kidnapping and rape in order to extort $50K from her husband. Her own husband, Reid Gray, is defending her, as he is an attorney and he believes that her bipolar disorder has played a major role in her claims. Reid Gray believes his wife, despite a 20 minute audio tape of her having seemingly consensual sex with her alleged captor, who is believed to be her co-conspirator and who has rolled on her to the cops.

Her Facebook profile shows a normal 37-year-old wife and mom who liked television, hip hop music and living in her $4 million dollar home with her family. Reid Gray believes she may have been on a manic cycle of her bipolar illness and believed she was in danger or was in danger. The cops aren’t buying it.

Quinn’s 911 call was disturbing, as she claimed a man named Jasmin Osmanovic abducted her along with 3 others. Osmanovic said he was hired by Quinn to stage the whole thing and get the money as she was having marital and substance abuse problems. It seems he believed they were romantically involved. His girlfriend is the one who turned the audiotapes over to the cops.

The whole story is so disturbing, but I do know this – $50K is probably nothing for this woman to get her hands on and I doubt she would have to stage something so elaborate. That said, I believe her mental illness was certainly at play here. What do you think?

FDLS Polygamist Jessop found guilty of sexual assault.

You all may remember this story about the Texas ranch where older men had entered into marriages with tweens and teens. It seems Raymond Jessop has been found guilty of sexual assault of a minor. His sentencing should happen today.

When sects or cults hide behind religious beliefs to do harm and violate the laws of our nation, I don’t think that freedom of religion should apply, just as in those cases where parents deny terminally ill children treatment when their religion dictates prayer as the only form of healing.

I expect many more cases to come out of the Texas ranch.

Where is Morgan Harrington?

Morgan Harrington was at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA on Saturday night to attend a Metallica show. At 8:40, according to reports, she felt ill, went in search of a rest room, then exited the stadium to get some air. Stadium security would not let her back in. (more on this asinine policy later) She called one of the 2 friends she had traveled with to the show (Morgan is a Virginia Tech student) and told them what had happened. There are varying reports as to what she advised the friend (some say she said “I’ll meet you in the parking lot” or “I’ll find a way back home on my own”) on the phone, but she vanished. Her purse and phone (battery removed) were found by UVa police the morning after.

I understand that policies about reentry are made to protect everyone. Someone could (gasp) sneak into a show with a phony ticket stub. A crazed fan could leave, get a weapon and reenter the venue. The scenarios are legion. But when a young woman is separated from her friends and not feeling well, should it not be incumbent upon venue security to ensure her safety as well? Are they not called “security”? How many fans without tickets (and perhaps a taste for crime) could have been lurking outside, just waiting for a stray young disoriented woman to appear? What about the road crew of the two opening acts?

Please pray for the safe return of Morgan. Regardless of what happened to her, she’s been gone for 5 days and her family needs some answers, as does the community.

PS – have you ever heard your cell ring during a concert? I would think looking at texts to be far more important.

We will post some links later. The story is developing quickly and has just been classified by VA State Police as a “criminal investigation”.

Wow. Megan Williams RECANTS tale of horror/rape/beating/stabbing by 6.

We’ve been searching for it, but we blogged about this horrific case about a year ago. A young African-American woman was found in a rural trailer in West Virginia with injuries. She had, she told police, been held captive there by 6 white men and women and repeatedly beaten and sexually assaulted.

It was a horrifying case and those 6 “depraved” (as I then wrote) folks were sentenced to prison for up to 40 years.

Now, Megan Williams has come forward, via her attorney and is recanting the whole story, saying she wanted to get back at her boyfriend. Good God! She is expected to speak to media soon, but not quite yet as she fears for her safety, as well she should. When you mix false reporting and racial tension, it’s a powder keg.

Here’s where it gets weird. The prosecutor is standing by the convictions. Megan Williams never even testified and the 6 that were charged all CONFESSED. Are you following me thus far? Not one of them has filed an appeal and the evidence seems to be solid.

Something in the milk ain’t right. We’ll keep you up to date on this explosive revelation as it unfolds.

A century later, justice for the family of Tom Joyner.

If you don’t know who Tom Joyner is, take a listen to his wildly popular, nationally syndicated radio show. I’ve been listening to him since the early 90s.

His two great uncles were wrongfully executed for the 1913 murder of a Confederate soldier and given the electric chair. Seems they had the wrong guys. This past week, the state of South Carolina officially pardoned the two wrongfully executed men, giving Joyner’s family the peace they so richly deserved.

Interestingly enough, Joyner did not know of the wrongful death until Skip Gates (White House beer and “teaching moment”) told him of the story.

Bravo!

Lavinia Masters is one incredible woman.

I have so much praise for this woman and her fortitude. Keep going! Read about her story here.

It’s the sad truth that the statute of limitations has run out on her case, ergo, they cannot prosecute her now positively identified attacker. Perhaps we should strengthen THOSE laws if we are finally going to get to the millions of DNA samples that have been languishing. If we get to them quicker, we’ll be able to prosecute more cases, imprison more perpetrators and free those wrongfully accused. If we have a combined effort of testing the samples faster and lengthening the SOL’s, we could have some measure of success in the middle. Alas, we’ve got a long way to go.

We have the technology! Press on, Lavinia!

Roman Polanski still in Swiss jail.

You know my feelings on this. Extradition could take a very long time given Swiss extradition laws, but he will not be released so that he may live under house arrest in his Gstaad home.

As for the many in Hollywood, lining up to defend him: Scorsese, Winger, Allen, Ratner, Evans, Beatty, Weinstein, Adjani, et.al., I don’t believe that their view of his artistic genius should impact the severity of the charges. Simply because one is a) talented, b) survived the horrors of the Holocaust and c) lived through a grave personal tragedy does not mean he goes free.

Let’s not even discuss Whoopi Goldberg’s “that wasn’t ‘rape-rape'” comment. It’s too stupid to give any time here. Feeding a child drugs and alcohol, then penetrating her vaginally, orally and anally while she begged for it to stop, is rape. Rape. Rape.

What if Sharon Tate’s killer had been set free? Would Mr. Polanski have found that okay? No. Nor would anyone else. I guess what I’m saying is that the moral depravity of some in the Hollywood community is shocking. Well, maybe not.

Why is America so prudish? Leave Meghan McCain alone.

Meghan McCain posted a picture on her Twitter account, clearly in the privacy of her home, wearing a tank top. That she is well-endowed is evident. Since the blogosphere and Twittersphere has become such a place of hatred, she was, inevitably, labeled a “slut” for the photograph.

Since when does being well-endowed constitute being a “slut”? I’m not going to be political here, but the girl defended herself quite aptly regarding the hurtful comments aimed at her. Ann Coulter routinely shows her very long legs. We see photos of President Obama engaging in sports with his shirt off. The First Lady has the right to “bare arms”. Why on Earth this is a partisan issue is beyond me. Well, no it isn’t because any anonymous person with a keyboard can hurl invectives. Once again, back to the idea that in order to post any sort of comment, one should have to register in one’s real name with a credit card.

Because of our insane and Puritanical preoccupation with sex and body image, we are losing sight of the fact that Meghan McCain, merely by being a public person, is a lightning rod for criticism, but, in this case, the WRONG kind. I feel for her. Just because someone has a blog, a Twitter account or is in any way public does not give people the right to be hateful and hurtful. Yes, free speech, blah blah blah. But we’ve taken it too far.

If you want to disagree with her politics, then do so in an intelligent manner. A well-built girl with her clothes on should not be at the receiving end of such hatred.

Two female inmates in Oklahoma raped working at Governor’s mansion.

This is a terrible story of the rape of two inmates on work detail at the Oklahoma governor’s mansion. What makes it awful is that the suspects were merely fired and no charges are being brought against them, although it is clear the women were raped.

Are incarcerated people just not considered part of of society? What do you think?

The only time I have semi-agreed with Joe Francis!

Joe Francis, founder of “Girls Gone Wild” empire and former jailbird, was in Washington DC this past weekend marching for gay right. Yes, you read that correctly. In a rare show of common sense, (he still made it about him), he said that he was marching not for gay rights, but for civil rights and the rights of all people. That would include himself and what he does for a living.

Whatever the motivation, I’m glad he did it. Doesn’t change my opinion of what he does, but I salute his decision to march and hope he learned something!
